What if I told you for one blue and one colorless mana at sorcery speed you could take a whole turn for yourself right after this one? Would you like to? Interested? Well, I would like to tell you about Time Walking. Time Walk is a very powerful effect. These days it costs anywhere from 3UU to 4UU to Time Walk. That is getting a little more expensive then I like, so perhaps we should find other ways of Time Walking.
Now lets look at how and when you can Time Walk. Keep your eyes open, many people Time Walk without even realizing it.
Time Walking might be as simple a thing as Remanding your opponents spell (Time Walk plus a cantrip?!) or it might be Wildfire with a Keiga out (Time Walk and clear out the weenies). However there are many less obvious ways to Time Walk. For example: You play Birds of Paradise. If your opponent spends his turn shocking your Birds of Paradise, you just Time Walked him. If he doesn’t kill the Birds, you just accelerated a whole turn, Time Walking him. Birds of Paradise is like an uncounterable Time Walk. Unless your opponent Force of Wills, but then it’s just like you time walked him twice!
Now let’s say you have an empty hand and it’s now your turn. You draw your card. It’s a land. You could play it and effectively Time Walk your oppponent with the acceleration but that would be a mistake. There is a better opportunity to Time Walk your opponent here. If you hold it in hand and pass the turn to him, he will likely spend his whole turn trying to figure out what you’ve kept in hand, thereby Time Walking him!
These are just one of many possible Time Walks that you can utilize if you’re aware of them. There are many more you can use in day-to-day situations.
Just today I was going to get some lunch when I noticed a man near the front of the line distracted and talking on his phone. I quickly slipped in front of him, effectively Time Walking him. On my way home, I came to a four-way stop and noticed there was no one else waiting, so I just kept going, getting a free Time Walk.
Remember to practice and keep your eyes open so you don’t miss a chance at Time Walking.
